Attorney and Law Professor, Denis Stearns, Appointed to Jefferson County Board of Health
Even though I don’t need a job, or really much more to keep me busy, I was perusing the want-ads in the Port Townsend Leader one evening. Mostly, I just enjoy seeing who is hiring and for what, a way to keep in touch a bit with the hometown I love. And there was a notice that said the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners were looking for a candidate to appoint to the Board of Health, for the “Concerned Citizen” position. Well, I knew I was well qualified, being an attorney with many years of experience, much related to food and water safety. I had been on the Jefferson County Local Food System Council for many years. I had served on more than one Board of Directors for nonprofits, working on issues like food insecurity, and access to healthcare for those living (and exiled to) the margins of society. So, I sent in my letter of interest, with a link to my CV. Well, lo and behold, I was appointed and, on December 13, 2018, I attended my first meeting. I look forward to becoming even more involved in my community, and to effecting positive change the best I can.
